BJP spokesperson complaints to DGP

Advocate Sanjay Singh, the Spokesman of the Maharashtra BJP, has officially written to the Director General of Police (DGP) demanding strict scrutiny and heightened vigilance regarding a Sanpada-based self-proclaimed pastor, Vishal Moreshwar. Singh has labeled Moreshwar a “conman” and flagged several of his public assertions as potentially misleading.

The controversy centers around a YouTube video published in 2024, wherein Moreshwar claimed to have attended a meeting alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New York on September 23, 2024. According to Singh, invoking the Prime Minister’s presence is an issue of serious public importance that cannot be taken lightly. He warned that in the current geopolitical landscape, such assertions could potentially be utilized as a “toolkit”.

The BJP spokesperson emphasized that claiming an association with the Prime Minister carries significant influence and must be substantiated by credible documentation and verifiable evidence. Singh noted that the absence of such proof raises substantial concerns regarding the authenticity and intent of these claims. He stated that using the Prime Minister’s name to artificially bolster personal credibility is deeply troubling and requires immediate, thorough scrutiny.

Furthermore, Moreshwar claimed in the same video to be the only person globally granted the honor of preaching at the US Senate, The White House, and the Pentagon. Singh dismissed these claims as “ridiculous,” adding that if they hold any truth, Moreshwar must be investigated to determine the cost and favors involved in securing such opportunities from US authorities.

Adding to the gravity of the allegations, the press statement resurrected Moreshwar’s past, noting his involvement following the 26/11 terror attacks. Moreshwar allegedly assisted his friend, Kenneth Haywood—a US national from Navi Mumbai who was a suspect at the time, to escape, an incident previously reported by the Mumbai Mirror.

Highlighting the need for accountability, Singh stated:

“This is not merely a question of personal exaggeration; it is an issue that touches upon accountability, and the responsible use of the names of high constitutional authorities. Claims of this nature, if unverified or false, have the potential to mislead the public, distort facts, and undermine institutional integrity”.

Adv. Singh concluded his appeal to the DGP by asserting that public claims involving the country’s highest offices must be held to the highest standards of transparency and accuracy. He stressed that it is imperative to independently examine and fact-check these statements with urgency, as any deviation from the truth in matters of this magnitude should not go unquestioned.
